Enhancing Clean Energy Education, PGN Transforms SMPN 34 Depok into an Independent Energy School
Depok – PT PGN Tbk, as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding,
launched the Independent Energy School (SEB) program at SMPN 34 Depok to educate students on clean energy utilization. Through this program, PGN collaborates with Pertamina’s Oil and Gas Holding to implement Pertamina’s Corporate Social Responsibility (TJSL) program in the education sector.
"SEB is a strategic initiative to raise awareness among the younger generation at SMPN 34 Depok about the importance of environmental preservation, introduce renewable energy concepts, and promote climate change mitigation. This program also supports SMPN 34 in becoming an Adiwiyata School," said Fajriyah Usman, PGN Corporate Secretary, on January 15, 2025.
SMPN 34 Depok is a partner in PGN’s TJSL Gerbang Ciliwung program. The SEB Energizing Sustainable Community activities featured various initiatives. PGN provided a solar panel system with a capacity of 3.3 kW and a 5 kWh battery storage. These solar panels will be used to support the school’s canteen operations and hydroponic system.
"The use of these solar panels is estimated to save up to IDR 6.8 million in electricity costs per year and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 3.82 tons of CO2 annually," Fajriyah explained.
As a tangible commitment to environmental sustainability, tree planting activities were also conducted within the school area. Additionally, SMPN 34 Depok students were given a platform to showcase their creativity through a waste recycling competition at the Upcycling Expo, aiming to instill the importance of innovative waste management.
SEB also hosted workshops covering various themes, topics, and learning methods, including household waste management, local environmental issues, and the benefits of using solar panels.
"Through the SEB program at SMPN 34 Depok, PGN demonstrates its commitment to supporting sustainable education and energy. This initiative is expected to create a significant positive impact on both the environment and the younger generation as future leaders. PGN will continue collaborating to support sustainable development goals, particularly in ensuring quality education (SDG 4)," Fajriyah concluded.
