Pertamina's Subholding Gas Promotes "GasKu", an Environmentally Friendly and Wallet-Friendly Fuel at IIMS 2024
Jakarta – PT PGN Tbk, as Pertamina's Subholding Gas, once again showcased its "GasKu" product, an environmentally friendly fuel for vehicles, at the 2024 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS). GasKu is a brand of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) managed by PGN's subsidiary, PT Gagas Energi Indonesia ("Gagas").
"GasKu is a product created by Subholding Gas to support the government’s program related to the conversion from fuel oil to gas fuel. This product is also more environmentally friendly, making it a low-emission alternative fuel for vehicles. Compared to other fossil fuels, GasKu’s emissions are 25-35 percent lower," said PGN's Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Harry Budi Sidharta, during his visit to Pertamina’s booth at IIMS 2024 on February 15, 2024.
The majority of GasKu customers are public transportation vehicles such as bajaj, angkot (public minivans), city buses, taxis, and operational vehicles for state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and local governments. The benefits of using GasKu include reduced emissions, which helps keep engines cleaner, and the absence of strong smoke odors.
"We will support various parties who wish to benefit from using gas fuel through the optimal operation of CNG refueling facilities. For example, Blue Bird, a conventional taxi company, uses gas fuel for part of its fleet due to its environmentally friendly, safe, and economical properties. There are also several online taxi drivers and public transportation services such as blue bajaj," said PGN Corporate Secretary Rachmat Hutama at a press conference at Pertamina's IIMS 2024 booth.
In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the use of GasKu is also more cost-effective, priced at IDR 4,500 per Liter Equivalent Premium (LSP), with gas sourced domestically, making it more affordable. Customers can save around 50% on energy costs, and the performance of GasKu is comparable to that of fuel in motor vehicles.
Currently, Pertamina is focusing on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives and Net Zero Emissions (NZE) by offering environmentally friendly energy sources, one of which is gas fuel. "Now is the time to fuel the energy transition towards NZE using these environmentally friendly energy sources," added Rachmat.
GasKu can be applied to vehicles that have been fitted with a converter kit, allowing them to switch between using fuel and gas (dual fuel system), which alleviates concerns in case the gas runs out while on the road. The installation of the converter kit can be done at certified workshops, such as at Autogas Indonesia Workshop, Taman Tekno BSD Tangerang Selatan, and Raja Rafa Samudra Workshop, Pondok Gede, East Jakarta.
"Using gas fuel for vehicles does not mean replacing the engine. There is a switch, so vehicles can still use fuel. Adding gas fuel to vehicles will support their range and also support Pertamina's 'blue sky' program to achieve Net Zero Emissions," explained Gagas CEO Muhammad Hardiansyah.
A CNG tank can hold up to 15 liters of gas, and refueling takes 1-2 minutes. On average, 2,016 vehicles refuel with GasKu at Gagas' CNG refueling stations and Mobile Refueling Units (MRUs) daily.
Currently, CNG refueling stations are available in Jakarta, Bekasi, Bogor, Semarang, Palembang, Balikpapan, Subang, Prabumulih, Sukabumi, Purwakarta, Serang, Cilegon, Lampung, Batam, Surabaya, Gresik, and Bandung. The total number of Pertamina Group’s CNG stations is 72.
