Subholding Gas Pertamina Ensures Smooth Distribution of 879 BBTUD Natural Gas During 2023/2024 Holiday Season

Jakarta – PT PGN Tbk, as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, successfully executed its 2023/2024 Christmas and New Year Task Force (Satgas Nataru) operations from December 15, 2023, to January 7, 2024, ensuring the safe and uninterrupted distribution of natural gas across the nation.
Key Achievements

  1. Volume Stability: Natural gas distribution remained at 879 BBTUD, fulfilling 100% of customer demand.
  1. Increased LNG Regasification: Facilities such as LNG Lampung, Perta Arun Gas, and Nusantara Regas facilitated a 54% increase in LNG regasification, from 308 BBTUD in 2022 to 476 BBTUD in 2023.
  1. Operational Readiness: The task force monitored 23 operational areas and manned 24-hour command posts, complemented by a 24/7 contact center reachable at 135.
  1. Advanced Monitoring Systems: The Integrated Monitoring Center (IMOC) provided real-time oversight of gas distribution operations, infrastructure conditions, and customer feedback, ensuring seamless operations.
Growth in Natural Gas Utilization for Transportation
  • 42% Increase in BBG Sales: Total BBG sales reached 496,594 Liters Equivalent to Premium (LSP) during the Satgas period, driven by heightened public mobility during the holidays.
  • SPBG Performance:
  • SPBG Pondok Ungu saw a 4% increase in sales compared to pre-Satgas months, with demand equally split between taxis, angkots, and bajajs.
  • SPBG Bogor catered predominantly to angkots, while bajajs dominated at SPBG Klender.
Conclusion

During the Satgas period, PGN maintained reliable supply chain coordination for natural gas, including LNG storage and regasification, oil and gas transportation, and commercial operations. These efforts ensured consistent service to 4,986 industrial, commercial, and small-scale customers, as well as 834,165 residential households.

“Satgas Nataru 2023/2024 was executed safely with no significant challenges or fatalities. Gas distribution across all customer segments was well-maintained, even as demand from certain industrial and commercial customers decreased during the holiday period. We achieved a 99.76% customer complaint resolution rate during this period,” said PGN’s Director of Sales and Operations, Ratih Esti Prihatini, on January 10, 2024.

The use of compressed natural gas (BBG) at Gagas-managed SPBGs (Natural Gas Fuel Stations) increased significantly, contributing to reduced emissions and serving as an alternative energy source during the energy transition.

Muhammad Hardiansyah, CEO of Gagas, highlighted the diversity of vehicles utilizing natural gas fuel, such as bajajs, angkots, and taxis, reflecting the growing adoption of natural gas in the transportation sector.

Through its strategic operations and advanced monitoring systems, PGN ensured seamless gas distribution and customer satisfaction during the critical holiday season. With increased utilization of BBG and LNG, PGN continues to contribute to emission reduction goals and the government’s energy transition efforts.

This year’s Satgas Nataru operations underscore PGN’s capability to maintain national energy security while promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions.
