PGN Business Program Optimizes Strategic Role of Natural Gas and Green Economy Aligned with Prabowo-Gibran's Asta Cita
Jakarta – As the Gas Subholding of PT Pertamina Persero, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) has aligned its dual business development pathways with the Asta Cita Government Vision for 2024–2029 under Prabowo-Gibran’s leadership. These pathways emphasize the strategic role of natural gas as a transitional energy source and renewable energy to achieve energy security and support Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045.
PGN’s Director of Strategy and Business Development, Rosa Permata Sari, outlined the two business development tracks: the first focuses on legacy business in natural gas, while the second aims at transitioning towards a Low Carbon Business. Both are encapsulated in six strategic programs already established.
“Among the six strategic programs, the first involves the development of gas transmission and distribution pipelines. The goal is to improve connectivity between natural gas regions and increase access for new users,” Rosa explained during her presentation on the theme “Opportunity in Providing Clean Energy for Industry” at the REPNAS National Conference on Monday (10/14).
The expansion of natural gas infrastructure aligns with the second pillar of Prabowo-Gibran’s Asta Cita: energy self-sufficiency and the green economy. This initiative encompasses key aspects such as the construction of gas terminal infrastructure, gas transmission/distribution networks, and expanding fuel-to-gas and electricity conversion for motor vehicles.
“Natural gas plays a vital role in Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 because it is the cleanest fossil energy source. It is also strategic as a transitional energy toward achieving Net Zero Emission (NZE) by 2060,” she added.
Furthermore, as one of the world’s natural gas producers, Indonesia could significantly bolster its economy by replacing imported LPG with domestically sourced natural gas.
“Household gas networks (Jargas) support energy independence. Currently, we can only supply about 30% of domestic LPG demand, while demand continues to grow. Transitioning to natural gas would reduce LPG imports and save foreign exchange,” Rosa elaborated.
Developing Jargas constitutes the third pillar of PGN’s Strategic Program, following the second, which focuses on building LNG Receiving Terminals and LNG Hubs. The fourth strategic initiative involves optimizing Gas Refueling Stations (SPBGs), as compressed natural gas (CNG) remains essential for both private and public transportation alongside electric vehicles during the transition period.
“This highlights the critical role of natural gas in forming a clean energy supply ecosystem,” she emphasized.
The fifth and sixth pillars of PGN’s Strategic Program pertain to Decarbonization Programs through Carbon Capture and Renewable Energy Programs. “These initiatives are closely related to PGN’s business, and we are open to partnerships in these areas,” Rosa said.
PGN’s second business development pathway aligns with the Green Economy direction outlined in Asta Cita, particularly accelerating decarbonization plans to achieve NZE targets.
“Given its significance, this journey cannot be undertaken alone. We need collaboration. Together, we can achieve our vision of Indonesia Golden Vision 2045 with environmentally friendly energy, fostering sustainable growth,” Rosa concluded.
