PGN LNG Indonesia Joins Papua Northern Gasification Development Project

Jakarta – PT PGN LNG Indonesia, as part of Pertamina's Subholding Gas, has officially joined the gasification development project in North Papua. This project aims to strengthen the gas supply chain through the development of LNG infrastructure for power plants in the North Papua region.

The North Papua gasification project will support the operation of seven major power plants with a total capacity of 168 MW. The project will also require an average gas supply of 20.83 BBTUD over the next 20 years.

The President Director of PT PGN LNG Indonesia, Nofrizal, stated, "This gasification project is a concrete manifestation of realizing the Net Zero Emission target by 2060. PGN LNG Indonesia has the opportunity to contribute by providing LNG as a clean energy source, which plays a crucial role as transitional energy for carbon emission reduction in Indonesia."

The LNG infrastructure development will be carried out by the Papua Bersama Consortium, consisting of PT Pertamina Internasional Shipping, PT PGN LNG Indonesia, PT Enviromate Technology International, and PT APCA Tirta Engineering, which are all part of the Papua Bersama Consortium. The consortium's infrastructure will be spread across Jayapura, Biak, Manokwari, and Nabire.

The Papua Bersama Consortium is an initiative formed to enhance cooperation among various parties for development in Papua. The formation of this consortium is also supported by various central and local government agencies and international institutions that encourage inclusive development in Papua. Overall, the Papua Bersama Consortium aims to serve as a platform for collaboration, coordination, and innovation to drive sustainable gas infrastructure development.

"PGN LNG Indonesia supports efforts to enhance energy supply reliability and national energy resilience," said Nofrizal.

The President Director of PLN EPI, Iwan Agung Firstantara, stated that this strategic cooperation is an important step to ensure a more stable and sustainable energy supply in North Papua. The existing gas supply can also be optimized to meet national gas needs.

"This project is not just about building gas infrastructure, but also about building strong synergy between various parties to ensure energy supply security in this strategic region. With the signing of the JDA today, we are confident that the next steps, such as design, funding, and construction, will proceed more quickly," said Iwan.
