PGN Develops Gas Network in the Tourism Industry with ITDC

Jakarta – Continuing its commitment to developing Natural Gas Network (Jargas) infrastructure across various regions in Indonesia, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) is expanding into the tourism industry segment. PGN achieved this through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Gas Network Development for Hotels and Restaurants with the subsidiary of Injourney Tourism Development Corporation, PT ITDC Nusantara Utilitas (INU) in early September.

PGN was represented by Hedi Hedianto, General Manager of Sales and Operations Region III PGN, while INU was represented by AA Istri Ratna Dewi, President Director. The signing was also witnessed by PGN’s Commercial Director, Ratih Esti Prihatini.

"This is the beginning of fulfilling the target for gas network development, both pipeline and beyond pipeline. We hope this collaboration can advance to a more tangible level. Moreover, it will contribute positively to PGN and INU as a form of synergy between state-owned enterprises (SOEs), in this case between Pertamina Group and ITDC," said Ratih Esti Prihatini, PGN’s Commercial Director.

The goal of this agreement is to explore the potential in planning, developing, managing, and supplying natural gas in areas managed by INU, to meet the energy needs of users in the tourism sector, particularly in hotels, restaurants, and related businesses. Areas managed by INU include the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Central Lombok, NTB, and Golo Mori in West Manggarai, NTT. Both of these areas are part of the cooperation with PGN and have been designated by the government as international tourism destinations, with plans for development.

Other implementations can also be carried out in the form of joint optimization of existing assets or other business synergies that can benefit and profit both parties.

AA Istri Ratna Dewi, President Director, revealed that the Nusa Dua area had already been served by a gas network, including its installations. She hopes that natural gas can be supplied to other INU-operated areas, so that they can replicate the success story in Nusa Dua. One of the areas is Mandalika, which is currently growing, where there is potential to explore the development of a gas network.

"The cooperation between PGN and INU will begin with a feasibility study. The SOR 3 area, which spans from Central Java, Kalimantan to Eastern Indonesia, already has a team in place, so day-to-day coordination will be more prepared," added Hedi Hedianto, General Manager of PGN Sales and Operations Region III.

As of the first half of 2024, PGN has served 3,154 industrial and commercial customers, 2,017 small customers, and 816,063 household customers. With the opening of new potential in special economic zones, particularly in the tourism sector, this will certainly support the growth of natural gas customers and expansion into new areas.

Opening new potentials for the equitable use of natural gas nationwide is PGN's target in the era of sustainable energy transition. PGN hopes that such collaborations will continue to increase, making it easier for people to benefit from natural gas consumption.
