PGN and PIS Collaborate on LNG Transportation from Donggi Senoro to Enhance National Gas Supply Chain Efficiency
Jakarta – Collaboration within Pertamina's subholdings has once again been established to secure Indonesia’s national energy needs, particularly for natural gas. PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, and PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) Integrated Marine Logistics signed a transportation contract for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) cargo from the Donggi Senoro field to the Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Lampung (FSRU Lampung).
The contract was signed by PGN’s Group Head of Gas and LNG System Management, Tatit Sri Jayendra, and PIS VP of Gas, I Ketut Permadi Aryakuumara, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. The event was witnessed by PGN Commercial Director Ratih Esti Prihatini and PIS Director of Gas, Petrochemicals, and New Businesses, Arief Sukmara.
The LNG transportation is scheduled to commence in mid-September 2024 using the vessel Lady Eva, which will transport approximately 135,000 m³ of LNG, equivalent to 3,159,000 MMBTU.
PGN Commercial Director Ratih Esti Prihatini expressed gratitude and appreciation for the partnership with PIS, which significantly supports PGN in securing natural gas supplies, especially for industrial customers. Currently, there is an imbalance between demand and supply for gas in regions such as Western Java, South Sumatra, and Lampung.
“In this imbalance scenario, PGN requires alternative solutions for securing natural gas supplies, such as LNG from Donggi Senoro. This collaboration within the Pertamina Group demonstrates the success of the Oil and Gas Holding in increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of energy services. Given that the LNG source is located in Eastern Indonesia, an LNG carrier is essential for transporting it to the FSRU Lampung facility,” explained Ratih on August 29, 2024.
The LNG will undergo regasification at FSRU Lampung before being transferred to the SSWJ transmission pipeline system. From there, it will be distributed through PGN’s network to customers.
“PGN continuously strives to secure supply by partnering with potential stakeholders. PGN cannot operate entirely on its own and deeply appreciates the support from various parties, including PIS. This collaboration allows for the timely delivery of additional LNG from Eastern Indonesia,” Ratih concluded.
This partnership between PGN and PIS, both under the Pertamina Oil and Gas Holding umbrella, reinforces their roles in ensuring the availability of domestic energy. Optimizing gas absorption is expected to sustain industrial activities reliant on natural gas, enabling business continuity and economic growth.
