Industry Sustainability as a Priority, PGN Prepares Alternative Gas Sources

Jakarta – PGN is committed to supporting energy sustainability for the national industry by ensuring a reliable and sustainable gas supply.

To address the challenges of pipeline gas availability in several strategic regions, such as Central Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, and West Java, PGN is actively seeking new pipeline gas supply sources and alternative solutions, including regasified LNG sourced domestically from Tangguh, Bontang, and Donggi Senoro.

"PGN strives to maintain national energy sustainability by balancing gas demand and supply. Amid declining pipeline gas supplies from key sources, regasified gas serves as an effective alternative solution to ensure that customers continue to receive the energy they need," said Fajriyah Usman, PGN Corporate Secretary, in Jakarta (January 6, 2025).

Since mid-2024, PGN has introduced regasified LNG supply with 100% distribution to customers from three LNG cargo allocations provided by the government. It is anticipated that pipeline gas supply challenges will persist in 2025, making it highly likely that the proportion of regasified gas supply will increase to meet industrial demand.

To address this, PGN continues to maintain intensive communication with the government, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure strategic decision-making that strengthens energy and industrial sustainability nationwide.

Regasified gas has different characteristics and cost structures compared to pipeline gas. However, PGN remains committed to providing innovative solutions to maintain economic balance and customer competitiveness.

"PGN will continue to play an active role in supporting national energy security while providing sustainable solutions for industries through regasified LNG," Fajriyah concluded.
