PGN's Technological Innovation & Digital Transformation Drive More Effective and Efficient Gas Infrastructure Integration

Jakarta – PT PGN Tbk is committed to integrating natural gas infrastructure and services to enhance the utilization of natural gas across Indonesia. In this pursuit, PGN is implementing technological transformation and innovation to make this integration more efficient.

PGN believes that technological innovation is a key success factor in achieving its goal of integrating natural gas infrastructure. As a Subholding Gas, PGN aims to respond to and realize the government's aspirations for infrastructure integration, including inter-island pipelines, transmission pipelines, and beyond-pipeline or non-pipeline infrastructure, with the goal of connecting domestic natural gas resources to consumers.

Laode Sulaiman, Director of Oil and Gas Planning and Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), stated at the Gasfest Conference 2024 that several large projects, such as gas resources in Andaman and Masela, have been discovered. He highlighted that infrastructure availability is key to utilizing these vast resources. "Including the option of preparing LNG terminals if necessary," Laode added.

With vast resource potential, PGN is advancing gas delivery technology to expand the reach of natural gas distribution and meet demand across Indonesia. The goal is to integrate previously fragmented domestic natural gas infrastructure, increasing gas development for households, commercial and industrial sectors, as well as land and maritime transportation.

As part of its 59th Anniversary celebrations, PGN is strengthening innovation in the era of beyond-pipeline services to serve consumers in areas not yet connected to the pipeline network. There is considerable market potential in the beyond-pipeline sector, with estimated demand in Central and East Java reaching 24 BBTUD in the industrial and commercial sectors. Some of the beyond-pipeline infrastructure technologies PGN has implemented include LNG Microbulk, LNG Cylinders, CNG Cylinders, and CNG Cradles. Future technologies include LNG Bunkering Vessels and modular mini Liquefaction Plants.

“We continue to integrate infrastructure while also introducing technological innovations and digital breakthroughs. We are also aware that the government expects more efficiency. Digital transformation is an effort to achieve optimal efficiency,” said Suseno, Group Head of Engineering and Technology at PGN.

Digital breakthroughs are crucial for PGN to streamline its business processes, from operations to customer management, making them faster and more efficient. Some of the successful digital innovations developed by PGN include Digio for asset management, Sipgas for gas flow management, IMOC for integrated monitoring, PGN Partner, Rely On, and PGN Mobile for customer management.

PGN has been heavily involved in digital transformation over the last 10 years. However, PGN recognizes the need to continue pushing for further breakthroughs due to the dynamic challenges in the industry and the need for more efficient and transparent business processes. “The perspective of digital leadership is very important in managing business in this modern era,” said Suseno.

In today’s AI era, PGN is looking to proactively and creatively explore opportunities for adopting these technologies in the company’s business processes. As a major player in the utilization of gas in Indonesia, the technology PGN applies will address the challenges in gas distribution from various supply potentials and provide optimal services to all customers.
