SUPPORTING ENERGY TRANSITION, PERTAGAS FORMS PARTNERSHIP WITH PHE

JAKARTA – PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) have entered into a partnership to explore the use of gas compressors for PHE's operational and production needs. This collaboration between the two companies represents a tangible synergy within the Pertamina Group, supporting the government's energy transition program through the utilization of natural gas to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060.

Gamal Imam Santoso, CEO of Pertagas, stated that this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will serve as an important milestone in the partnership between PHE and Pertagas, bringing sustainable benefits to both companies and contributing to the development of Indonesia's energy industry.

"Currently, Pertagas's business is mostly focused on the midstream sector of PHE. This MoU will be followed by a study on the utilization of gas compressor units," said Gamal during the MoU signing for the study on using Pertagas's compressors for PHE’s operational and production needs at PHE Tower, Jakarta, on Friday, April 19, 2024.

The partnership with PHE is one of Pertagas's efforts to optimize existing assets, offering mutual benefits for both parties and the broader Pertamina Holding on a sustainable basis.

Pertagas's Gas Turbine Compressor (GTC) assets can be used to increase the pressure of gas from supply sources so it can enter high-pressure gas networks. GTC is typically used in gas transmission pipelines and gas processing facilities.

Currently, GTC is a key facility to boost pressure and maintain the reliability of gas delivery in Pertagas’s transmission pipelines. It is hoped that with the follow-up from this MoU, Pertagas and PHE will jointly explore the use of Pertagas’s GTC assets for developing PHE's gas fields.

"This GTC utilization will not only increase revenue for Pertagas but also serve as a tangible example of optimizing existing assets that support the sustainability of Pertagas's business," Gamal added.

For PHE, utilizing the GTC is expected to provide a cost-saving option for gas production and field development.

Awang Lazuardi, Director of Production and Development at PT Pertamina Hulu Energi, stated that the collaboration between PHE and Pertagas represents a form of synergy within Pertamina Group that is expected to provide added value and long-term mutual benefits for both companies. The next steps in the collaboration will be guided by HSSE, compliance, financial considerations, and business growth in both companies.

"Going forward, I hope this collaboration can extend beyond upstream activities and explore other assets to provide benefits and sustainable business development impacts," said Awang.

Transformation

Gamal stated that with its new tagline "Delivering Reliable Energy," Pertagas has transformed into a reliable energy infrastructure company, providing the best services to meet the energy needs of industries and communities.

As a progressive company focused on growth, Pertagas continues to maintain and improve its operational performance through sustainable business practices.

"Pertagas is also open to exploring other potential collaborations that may arise during the study process," said Gamal.

Pertagas has firmly established itself as a leading energy infrastructure company. It holds assets across the midstream and downstream sectors, including gas transmission pipelines, oil pipelines, gas processing, LNG regasification, and other supporting energy distribution infrastructure in Indonesia.

Pertagas has built and manages 2,809 km of gas transmission pipelines, 605 km of oil pipelines, two LPG plants with a capacity of 1,130 tons per day, a regasification terminal with a capacity of 400 BBTUD, and an LNG hub with a capacity of 127,000 m3.

Additionally, Pertagas has developed the Rokan Oil Pipeline, which now carries oil, and has completed the commissioning of the Senipah-Balikpapan Gas Pipeline.

These two pipeline networks add to Pertagas’s growing list of energy infrastructure projects, including the Arun Belawan Gas Pipeline, Duri-Dumai Gas Pipeline, Grisik-Pusri Gas Pipeline, Gresik-Semarang Gas Pipeline, Muara Karang-Muara Tawar Gas Pipeline, Porong-Grati Gas Pipeline, Tempino-Plaju Oil Pipeline, PSG LPG Plant, LNG Filling Station Arun, LNG Filling Station Bontang, Arun Regasification Terminal, and Tambak Lorok CNG Facility.
