PGN Supports Energy Downstream Development by Supplying 9.49 BBTUD of Natural Gas to PT Freeport Indonesia

Gresik – PT PGN Tbk, a subsidiary of Pertamina's Subholding Gas, is optimizing its natural gas services to support the downstream energy sector by supplying up to 9.49 BBTUD of natural gas to PT Freeport Indonesia’s copper smelter. This smelter is one of the largest copper processing facilities in the world today.

The natural gas supply to PT Freeport Indonesia is part of a long-term contract outlined in a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement (PJBG). The PJBG was signed by Rosa Permata Sari, PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, and Clayton Allen Wenas, President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia.

Rosa Permata Sari, PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, emphasized that PGN is committed to maintaining high-quality service by ensuring adequate gas infrastructure and reliable supply to optimize the benefits of natural gas for customers.

"As part of Pertamina’s Subholding Gas, we are committed to supporting government efforts to advance the national industry. This collaboration is significant for us because PT Freeport Indonesia is a major consumer with large gas demands," said Rosa (May 6, 2024).

The natural gas supply will be used for the smelter, acid plant, and PMR sectors. "We would like to express our gratitude to PGN for implementing the PJBG, which was followed by the gas-in process. We hope PGN will continue to ensure the sustainability and reliability of natural gas supply to support production and our downstream programs," said Clayton.

"We appreciate PT Freeport Indonesia for their trust and support in PGN to meet their natural gas needs. The added value of natural gas, which is more efficient and environmentally friendly, will help PT Freeport Indonesia implement energy-saving technologies and serve as a joint synergy in reducing greenhouse gas emissions," Rosa added.

PGN is confident that natural gas utilization will continue to rise, as more people become aware of its benefits as a cleaner, transition energy source. This aligns with the government's commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2060.
