PGN President Director Ensures Smooth Utilization of Household Gas Networks in Sleman
Yogyakarta – The President Director of PT PGN Tbk, Arief Setiawan Handoko, conducted an on-site inspection of the development of the natural gas network (jargas) for households in Sleman Regency, DIY Yogyakarta, on Friday, September 27, 2024. The development of the gas network in this area uses the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Clustering scheme.
CNG Clustering is used because Sleman Regency is not yet served by a transmission or distribution pipeline network. Therefore, natural gas from Blora is transported in the form of CNG using Gas Transport Module (GTM) trucks, then compressed to reduce its pressure before being distributed to customers' homes.
As of now, a total of 3,500 Household Connections (SR) have been installed for the gas network in Sleman, out of a target of 7,000 SR. The number of customers will continue to increase as the gas network infrastructure is further developed in this region.
"Providing natural gas for households is PGN's obligation to fulfill public service obligations. PGN is obliged to serve the community. In addition to serving the community, we are also moving toward the net-zero emission program," said Arief.
The household gas program is also expected to reduce LPG imports and the use of subsidized LPG. "Since LPG is still imported, the gas network will help reduce the burden of LPG imports and subsidies. Hopefully, more people, especially women, will adopt household gas for more efficient and faster cooking," Arief added.
Arief also urged the PGN team working in the Yogyakarta area to intensify socialization of the gas network utilization to the public, including educating them about the safety of using natural gas. Given that Yogyakarta is a new development area, PGN needs to provide education to the communities along the gas pipeline routes.
Arief also had the opportunity to visit customers and conduct a gas-in process. To the customers, he emphasized safety. "Safety is our number one priority. It is important to inform people that natural gas is lighter than air. If there is a leak, natural gas is easily detectable because it is given a distinct odor, so customers can immediately close the valve," he explained.
The safety advantages of the gas network are also an appeal for Maria, who enthusiastically adopted PGN's gas service. "It can be used 24 hours a day. Payments are also easy using mobile banking, e-wallets, or at nearby mini-market networks," she said.
Echoing Maria, Ita also welcomed the natural gas service in her home with enthusiasm. "Previously, our family used gas cylinders of various sizes. Then, we received good news from PGN about the offer to convert to natural gas. We no longer have to worry about running out of gas because it is available at all times, and payment can be made online. I hope PGN will continue to educate other women that the gas from PGN is safer and more efficient," said Ita.
