PGN's QUEST Application Enhances the Productivity of Natural Gas Infrastructure Data Processing by Up to 40%
Jakarta – In line with the increasing demand for speed in services across various sectors, including the development of natural gas infrastructure, PT PGN Tbk, as the Subholding Gas of Pertamina, is leveraging information technology and digitalization in its engineering and design activities for natural gas infrastructure. Recently, PGN launched the Quick Engineering Standards and Tools (QUEST) application, an integrated platform aimed at increasing data processing speed and boosting productivity in infrastructure planning, logistics scheme calculations, and cost estimations for natural gas infrastructure work, both for pipeline and beyond-pipeline modes.
"The QUEST application was developed as an integrated tool that provides accurate, fast, and standardized engineering calculations. Until now, the database system for engineering calculations has been a challenge, in terms of classification, format, data access, and standardization. Therefore, the QUEST application is a solution and an efficient tool by utilizing digital technology," explained PGN's Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Harry Budi Sidharta, on September 18, 2024.
QUEST consists of three modules: Siapp Gas-In, Unit Price, and Gas Think. The components of the application include material lists, equipment, labor, technical calculations, and transportation mode selection for a project, all of which will be analyzed by the software system. The software's analysis produces more comprehensive, measurable, and applicable data to carry out natural gas engineering work.
"Before the QUEST application, technical calculations were quite time-consuming. With QUEST, calculations can be done much faster, thus increasing effectiveness and productivity by up to 40% in planning and engineering work," said Harry.
The first module, Siapp Gas-In, supports PGN's program to serve various types of customers, including millions of household and retail customers, which require quick calculations of transportation costs and logistics schemes. Especially for new customers who need different modes of gas transportation, Siapp Gas-In can calculate the transportation cost for both pipeline and beyond-pipeline modes, including CNG and LNG, instantly. Workers just need to input data regarding the customer's needs and location to get transportation cost data immediately.
The second module, Unit Price, allows PGN to quickly and easily obtain standardized and confirmed unit price information for network materials and construction. This information is essential for preparing cost estimates for both pipeline and beyond-pipeline work, ensuring that cost estimations are made with minimal error and are properly documented.
The third module, Gas Think, further simplifies PGN's ability to perform calculations that involve unit and fuel conversions, as well as designs for various disciplines such as pipe diameter, pipe thickness, gas carrier ship size, MRS size, and other major equipment sizes. These calculations are important inputs in producing optimal and standardized design results while ensuring safety. It is expected that the Gas Think module will accelerate the design process within PGN Group.
"In the future, PGN’s market will expand and become more complex, so faster service and digitalization for quick and reliable information will be needed. The QUEST application is expected to continue to evolve with technology, market needs, and customer behavior, as well as to enhance customer satisfaction. This application is a business adaptation and accountability towards natural gas regulations. It will continue to grow, expanding its database and calculation modules. We are prepared and committed to responding to customer needs and simplifying tasks, especially in processing data and digital information required by workers, the company, and the public as customers," concluded Harry.
