Coastal Clean-Up Action at Teluk Labuan Beach, PGN Supports Cleaner and Sustainable Beaches
Banten – PT PGN Tbk, as a Subholding Gas of PT Pertamina Persero, collected hundreds of kilograms of waste during the Coastal Clean-Up (CCU) action at Teluk Labuan Beach, Labuan District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten. This event was held to commemorate World Environment Day 2024 with the theme "Solving the Climate Crisis with Innovation and Justice Principles." PGN carried out this environmental care initiative to maintain cleanliness and sustainability at Teluk Labuan Beach in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the Banten Provincial Government, and the Pandeglang Regency Government.
The CCU event was attended by approximately 426 participants from various sectors, including government officials (ASN), TNI, POLRI, students, environmental communicators, local communities, and PGN employees. The beach clean-up, which took place from Wednesday (June 5, 2024) to Friday (June 7, 2024), used two heavy equipment units and 10 waste transport vehicles, in cooperation with the Pandeglang Regency Environmental Service.
"The clean-up activity at Teluk Labuan Beach is a moment for PGN, along with stakeholders and the community, to work together in maintaining environmental cleanliness. By preserving the cleanliness and sustainability of the beach, we contribute to conserving marine ecosystems and minimizing environmental pollution," said PGN's Director of HR and Business Support, Rachmat Hutama, on June 9, 2024.
As a Subholding Gas of Pertamina, PGN aims to implement Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects in various activities while engaging with the local community to provide direct benefits. "We hope that PGN will remain consistent in raising awareness and organizing environmentally conscious activities regularly and sustainably," Rachmat added.
Teluk Labuan Beach has a historical connection to waste management, which motivated PGN to take action in cleaning up the waste there. With a cleaner beach, it is expected to boost local tourism and seafood businesses around the area. This also helps improve the economic circulation of the local community through the revitalization of tourism in Teluk Labuan Beach. Additionally, this activity aims to reduce pollution caused by both organic and non-organic waste.
Through this beach clean-up initiative, PGN hopes to raise awareness about the importance of keeping beaches clean and not dumping waste into the ocean or rivers that lead to the sea, while also fostering a greater appreciation for the beauty of beaches. Collaboration with the government is also crucial to finding solutions for waste management issues at the beach.
